Sarah was born in 1832 in Oxford in Oxfordshire. Growing up in the early 19th century, Sarah witnessed a world that was rapidly changing with the Industrial Revolution in full swing. By the age of 9, she was living in St Peter Le Bailey, Oxfordshire, a bustling area that reflected the era’s dynamic spirit.
In 1858, Sarah’s father, William Hebborn died. Just two years later, she married Henry Brown on 29th July 1860, in Christ Church, Stratford in Essex. The couple settled in West Ham in Essex.
Their family grew with the birth of their first daughter, Elizabeth Sarah Brown, on 10th April 1862, followed by Mira Lucy Brown on 7th April 1864. However, tragedy struck in 1865 when Henry passed away, leaving Sarah a widow with two young daughters.
By 1871, Sarah had moved to Tottenham, Middlesex, where she worked as a launderess to support her household. The following years were marked by the loss of several family members, including her mother, Elizabeth, in 1872, and her brothers Loveden Charles and William in 1869 and 1873, respectively.
On 21st September 1875, Sarah remarried, this time to Frederick John Russell, in All Hallows in Tottenham, Middlesex. The 1881 census records show Sarah living in Tottenham, with Frederick. Sadly, Sarah’s brother Joseph passed away around 1881.
By 1891, Sarah was still residing in Tottenham with Frederick. Sarah passed away aged 66 years at Tottenham Hospital on 26th April 1898 of breast cancer, collapsing after an operation.

I wonder what took her from Oxford to Essex.
